Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 2002
The aim of The Electronic Communications and Transactions Act is to provide for the facilitation and regulation of electronic communications and transactions It also serves to provide for the development of a national e-strategy for the Republic and to promote universal access to electronic communications and transactions and the use of electronic transactions by SMMEs. Furthermore, it serves to provide for human resource development in electronic transactions and to prevent abuse of information systems. Finally is serves to encourage the use of e-government services and to provide for matters connected therewith.

Consumer Protection Act No 68 of 2008
The aim of the Consumer Protection Act is to promote a fair, accessible and sustainable marketplace for consumer products and services, and to establish national norms and standards relating to consumer protection. It also serves to provide for improved standards of consumer information and to prohibit certain unfair marketing and business practices. In addition it aims to promote responsible consumer behaviour and to promote a consistent legislative and enforcement framework relating to consumer transactions and agreements. Furthermore, it serves to establish the National Consumer Commission.
